CEHRD continued with its Gender Based Civic and Citizenship Education in each of the 3 Senatorial Districts in Rivers State

 

CEHRD continued with its Gender Based Civic and Citizenship Education in each of the 3 senatorial districts in Rivers State for members of Women in Governance Network (WIGN). The second training was held on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Sam Royal Hotel, Ahoada, Rivers State for another 40 members of WIGN.The training built the confidence of the grassroot women, exposed them on their basic human rights and limitations and encouraged them to actively participate in politics. CEHRD's has established a Mentorship programme for the members of WIGN to enable them fulfil their short and long term goals and contribute to the development of their communities and Rivers State. This is part of activities under the framework for inclusive self-reliance and equal rights in the Niger delta, a project supported by the embassy of the kingdom of the Netherlands, Abuja. The WIGN is a platform designed by CEHRD to bring together women in politics and promote their inclusion and participation in politics.

CEHRD organised a Gender Based Civic and Citizenship Education for 40 members of Women in Governance Network (WIGN).

 

CEHRD organised a Gender Based Civic and Citizenship Education at Ulakwo Town Hall, Etche, Rivers State for 40 members of Women in Governance Network (WIGN).The training built the confidence of the grassroot women, exposed them on their basic human rights and limitations and encouraged them to actively participate in politics. The meeting identified 18 persons who showed interest in vying for political positions in the next general elections in Rivers State. These women will be mentored under the  CEHRD's Mentorship programme to enable them fulfil their short and long term goals and contribute to the development of their communities and the Rivers State. This is part of activities under the framework for inclusive self-reliance and equal rights in the Niger delta, a project supported by the embassy of the kingdom of the Netherlands, Abuja. CEHRD hosted the Netherlands Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Harry van Dijke and the embassy Second Secretary, Chelsey Buurman

 

With pleasure and gratitude, CEHRD hosted the Netherlands  Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Harry van Dijke and the embassy Second Secretary, Chelsey Buurman today at the CEHRD's Ken Saro-Wiwa Hall of Fame. It was a unique and rare opportunity to discuss topical environmental issues in the Niger Delta region, particularly the Ogoni cleanup. The robust interactive session was attended by representatives of Port Harcourt, Abuja and Bayelsa based Civil Society Organisations who are members of NACGOND and the  CORDAID Strategic Partnership (CORDAID SP).

One Day Dialogue Meeting on Political Mentorship for WIGN members in Bayelsa State

 

As a follow up to the Dialogue Meeting on Political Mentorship for Women in Governance Network (WIGN) held on Thursday 20 February 2020 in Rivers State, CEHRD organised a One Day Dialogue Meeting on Political Mentorship for WIGN members in Bayelsa State. In attendance were representatives from WIGN, NGOs,Media and political parties in Bayelsa State.
 
CEHRD through this mentorship programme aims at changing negative narratives holding most women from actively participating at different levels in the politic system, promote women participation in good governance, empower women who will become active participants in politics and create workable strategies for political mentorship for WIGN and grassroot women in Rivers and Bayelsa States. This is part of activities under the framework for inclusive self-reliance and equal rights in the Niger delta, a project supported by the embassy of the kingdom of the Netherlands, Abuja.
 
We look forward to follow up with key political parties on the implementation of women mentorship structures in their parties, beginning from the communities, wards, LGAs, and state levels.

CEHRD Organised a Gender Based Civic and Citizenship Education for Women In Governance Network

 

CEHRD organised a Gender Based Civic & Citizenship Education at Sagbama and Ibelebiri Town Halls (Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd March 2020) Bayelsa State. The training is focused on building the confidence of grassroots women, to educate them on their human rights and their limitations, and to encourage them to actively participate in politics. A total of 80 women (40 from each community) selected from the Women in Governance Network (WIGN) in Bayelsa State participated in the training.  

The training engaged the women in participatory manner which afforded each participant the opportunity to make quality contributions. At the end of the training, participants identified information management as one of the major strategy to attain political heights. Collective actions/support, grassroots awareness creation and door-to-door campaign were further identified as ways to engage more women in the communities on political relevance in Bayelsa State. The training will continue in other target communities in Bayelsa State and later Rivers State. This is part of activities under the framework for inclusive self-reliance and equal rights in the Niger delta, a project supported by the embassy of the kingdom of the Netherlands, Abuja.

The Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD), a non-governmental organisation based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State organised a one-day dialogue meeting on political mentorship for members of Women in Governance Network (WIGN). In attendance were women from selected NGOs and political parties. The political mentorship meeting was organised to draw out key strategies to teach and educate grassroot women to become active participants in politics.
