Site assessment and baseline survey in Kono community was carried out on Friday, September 12, 2025. The visit to the proposed sites which was led by the Secretary of Kono Council of Chiefs was to assess the existing condition of the proposed sites/mangrove ecosystem in the project area.
Two sites earmarked by the community for the mangrove nursery were visited and assessed for suitability. While one of the proposed nursery sites is by the shoreline, the other is upland (far away from the shoreline).

Similarly, site assessment and baseline survey for suitable mangrove revegetation sites were also conducted on two sites proposed by Kono community.
The proposed project sites (creeks) were visited, sites showing mangrove trees and their density were mapped, checked for algae production, and observe geographical difference in mangrove survival in the mapped area.

The sites were mapped using Global Positioning System (GPS), Phones for pictures and field note for sketches.
The project is funded by GEF Small Grants Programme, United Nations Development Programme – UNDP.
