by Josiah Egbilika

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, project officers from the Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD) visited the Rumulumeni community in Obio Akpor LGA. The visit aimed to ensure the smooth implementation of the “Accelerating Community-Led Mangrove Restoration” project, which is funded by GEF Small Grants Programme, United Nations Development Programme – UNDP.

The meeting focused on consulting with and advocating to community leaders. In attendance were representatives from the State Universal School Board, faith-based organizations, and the leadership of the Rumulumeni community.

Dr. Tammy Cookey, the team lead, detailed the project’s activities and the benefits it would bring to the community. In response, community spokespeople welcomed the CEHRD team and promised their full collaboration and unconditional support to help the project achieve its objectives.

A major outcome of this meeting was securing buy-in from all stakeholders, who pledged their unconditional support for the program. Roles and responsibilities were also assigned, which was a key part of the positive experience.
