As part of activities to mitigate oil re-pollution in Niger Delta, the Centre For Environment Human Rights And Development – CEHRD on Wednesday, June 3, 2025 organized a public awareness programme in Gokana Local Government Area, Rivers State, Nigeria.
The rally was aimed to discourage and highlight the disadvantages and dangers of re-polluting the environment. Community members made up of women, men, and youths came out in their numbers to collaborate with CEHRD in the advocacy engagement.

Speaking to the traditional rulers and community members, Chairperson, Board of Directors, Centre for Environmnent, Human Rights and Development, (CEHRD), Chief Constance Meju stated that although Shell and other International Organization Corporations (IOCs) have destroyed our lands, joining them to destroy same land will only lead to more suferring.
Chief Meju revealed that when the environment is destroyed, the health of the people are being destroyed, resulting to early death. To avart this, she reccommended that there is need for all to join hands to keep stop all forms of oil re-pollution in our communities

The participants on their part expressed gratitude to CEHRD and True Costs Initiative for the initiative stating that they are in the moving of stopping re-pollution in Gokana LGA.
It is worthy of note that CEHRD has organized such rally in Ogbia and Yenegoa Local Government Areas in Bayelsa State in the bid to ensure more persons become away of the effects of oil re-pollution in Bayelsa State.

The rally is part of activities on the project, “Mitigating Oil Re-pollution in Niger Delta” implemented by CEHRD, sponsored by True Costs Initiative
