CEHRD Pays Consultative Visit to Rivers State Ministry of Justice

The Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development on June 18, 2026 paid a consultative visit to the Rivers State Ministry of Justice.

The purpose of the visit was to seek partnership with the ministry to be part of the drivers to produce a State Framework towards the implementation of the Rivers State Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law.

The Project Lead, Mr. Josiah Egbilika while speaking during the visit acknowledged the role played by the Ministry of Justice noting that their roles are a critical part of the fight against Gender Based Violence.

Mr. Egbilika explained that the project which seeks to strengthen collaborative efforts from the community to State institutions in a bid to reduce the violence against persons especially women and girls in Rivers State, purposes to seek for approval for a working guide for Rivers State VAPP Law.

The Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Justice appreciated CEHRD for such an initiative, stating that the framework will help to align all actors responsibilities working on GBV in the StateThe Permanent Secretary who committed towards the goal of the project stated that the ministry will support CEHRD to actualize the goal.

Also speaking, Head of Human Rights and Governance, Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD), Miss Queen Agba while responding noted that collaboration amongst State actors working on GBV will help to improve prevention and response towards addressing GBV in Rivers State.The visit opened up the discussion on who CEHRD’s project decision maker will be.
