CEHRD Trains Community Vanguards on Mitigating Oil Re-pollution in Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State

The Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD) as part of activities to discourage oil re-pollution in Niger Delta on Tuesday, 17th June, 2025 trained 25 community vanguards on “Mitigating Oil Re-Pollution in Niger Delta.

The community vanguards which were drawn from different communities in Ogbia Local Government Area in Bayelsa State, Nigeria gained knowledge on what oil re-pollution is, The Causes and Sources of Oil Re-pollution, Environmental and Health Impact of Oil Re-pollution and Social Cultural and Economic Impact of Oil Re-pollution.

They also gained knowledge on the Roles Community Members should play in Advocating Towards Oil Re-pollution, Tools and Strategies for Community Sensitization and The Need for Alternative Livelihoods.

The community vanguards who appreciated CEHRD for the training committed to join the fight against oil Re-pollution in their various communities. Some who spoke to CEHRD during the training stated that they will create more awareness on the matter to their traditional leaders and other community members.

The training is part of activities on the Mitigating Oil Re-pollution project implemented by CEHRD with support from True Costs Initiative
