As part of the project on Reducing Incidences and Re-occurrences of Oil Re-Pollution in the Niger Delta, CEHRD carried out consultation and advocacy activities in Rivers and Bayelsa States. The consultation and advocacy visits aimed to create a two-way dialogue where the community’s voice is not only heard but also acted upon. It is a crucial step towards community empowerment, equitable development, and ensuring that decisions affecting the people are made with their active participation and in their best interests.

The consultation and advocacy visits contributes towards achieving CEHRD’s goal to “Reduce Incidences and Re-occurrences of Oil Re-Pollution in the Niger Delta” through the following objectives:
- To enhance environmental education among Ex-artisanal refiners, Youths, Women crude Oil marketers, Community Opinion leaders about the impact of Oil re-pollution in Niger Delta within 12 months
- To Strengthen Collaboration between communities and relevant stakeholders to address the issue of incidences and re-occurrences of Oil re-pollution by 30%.
- To promote synergy and knowledge sharing among targeted communities in Niger Delta.

The consultation and advocacy visits resulted to acceptance of the project from target groups and also target groups from the various communities in Gokana Local Government in Rivers State and Ogbia Local Government in Bayelsa State expressing willingness to be trained on the issue of Oil Re-Pollution. The willingness will enable commitment from target groups to contribute towards reducing incidences and re-occurrences of oil re-pollution in target States.
