CEHRD carried out monitoring session to its established Mangrove Nursery Site in Kono Community, Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State, Nigeria. The visit was to have firsthand experience of how the nursed Mangrove Seedlings are doing.
CEHRD’s team in collaboration with the Kono Community Mangrove Vanguard witness that the mangrove seedlings are sprouting, healthy and ready to be replanted.

A notable outcome is that while CEHRD planted 1500 seedlings, the number of seedling been nursed has increased to 1700. This is a great outcome as community members are on their own practicalizing knowledge gain without CEHRD’s guidance.
This outcome shows sustainability noting that community members have the capacity to nurse mangrove seedlings. Next step will be the transplanting of the nursed seedlings to a permanent site donated by Kono Community.

The project is funded by GEF Small Grants Programme, United Nations Development Programme – UNDP
