OFFENCES AS CAPTURED ON THE VAPP LAW

Egbilika Josiah

The Centre for Environment Human Rights and Development CEHRD in her effort to popularize the the Rivers State Violence Against Persons (Prohibitions) Law – VAPP LAW organized a radio talk show to discuss on Offences as captured on the #riversstatevapplaw. The show highlighted some of the offences as covering #rape, #stalking, #Physical, #Psychological and #Emotional#Abuses, #Inflicting physical injury on a person, #coercion, #Frustrating#investigation, #political#violence, #incest, #spousal#Battery and more.

It will be recalled that in 2015, #vapplaw was signed into law in Nigeria making it possible for all persons, male or female to be protected from certain crimes not duly covered by the criminal and penal codes in operational in the Southern and Northern parts of Nigeria respectively. But the Act was adopted and signed into law in Rivers State in December 10, 2020 by His excellency, Barrister Nyeosom Ezebunwo Wike, Governor of Rivers State.

The law is all encompassing seeing to it that the perpetrators of crimes are duly punished and #victims are protected adequately. The radio show defined what #riversstatevapplaw is and why it is important to us.

#cehrd is happy to be one of the leading organizations to popularize the #riversstatevapplaw and its implementation. #cehrd appreciates European Union in Nigeria, Agents of Transformation and British Council Nigeria for the support.

Note: All opinions are that of #cehrd and not the supporters.
