CEHRD TRAINS RIVERS STATE VAPP LAW ENFORCEMENT INSTITUTIONS IN ELEME LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, RIVERS STATE, NIGERIA

The Duty of The Service Providers as provided in the Rivers State Violence Against Persons (Prohibitions) [VAPP] Law ranges from: Duty to counsel, guide and assist victims on the step to take to obtain justice, legal protection, compensation and redress to
Duty to help the victim to file the matter in court; file for interim protection order; offer temporary safe space/shelter to victims; among others.

This was made known during the training of Enforcement Institutions on the Provisions of #riversstatevapplaw in Eleme Local Government Area organized by Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (#CEHRD).

The training which held on April 6, 2022 was attended by the Ogale Divisional Police Headquarters, Eleme; Eleme Police Area Command, Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Lawyers, Traditional and Religious Leaders in Eleme LGA.

Training the Service Providers, Barrister Obiageli Oraka-Oifoghe emphasized the importance of the roles of the Service Providers. She stressed that for victims to have justice and be safe, Service Providers need to carryout their duties without compromise.

The participants recounted cases reported to them and how they handled it. They were able to see their weakness and agreed that there is need to work together.

The reason for this training was to bring a synergy between Service Providers to allow for better cohesion in delivering their roles as provided in the #riversstatevapplaw. This was made known to the Service Providers during the training and they in turn appreciated #cehrd for the effort.

#cehrd is glad to know that its project on Enhancing Prevention and Responses to Gender Based Violence in Rivers State is affecting lives positively. #cehrd appreciates European Commission for the support.
